System halted - internal overflow re stacks! Post a Reply
From: Chris on 01/13/2003
My computer will not load to Win98, so I decided to either format c and start again, or re-install Win98. I can't do either as I keep getting a message about an overflow and stack number need to be changed in config.sys!??

Could anyone explain to the thicky how to do this?

Also, if I could run Norton Utilities from DOS, would this sort the problem?

I've run scandisk in DOS and there don't seem to be any bad sectors on the HDD.

It's driving me bonkers!!!!!!!!!!!!

All help would be appreciated.

You may need to find a friend with Windows 95/98/ME. Create a new floppy disk. It is possible that the Config.sys file is damaged on your boot floppy. In addition, the previous post was correct by making sure you have completely wiped your partition and created a new one using FDISK off your boot floopy.

Boot from floppy and format C: from there also do fdisk and make sure that is all OK.
config.sys should not be there after a format from floppy.
