Hi
I'm posting this on behalf of my mate who keeps getting a blue screen
and an error message "PGCPC(01)+0000AC55 0E:0028:C0076921"
He is running Windows ME on a Tiny PC with AMD 800mhz and 512k ram.
The fault is occuring so regularly he is unable to post this cry for help himself. Any ideas anyone? He says that he has not made any software or hardware changes recently but the fault has just started to occur.

thanks

Mike

I got a PGCPC error and followed the suggestions to remove Second Chance Software. Worked like a dream. Went right through. Thanks!

Yep, thanks for the help. I had exactly the same problem with a Tiny PC running WinME. Out of the blue it would suddenly only boot into safe mode & then kept getting the blue screen of death reporting a "PGCPC" Error. I un-installed PowerQuest Second Chance software & it's all running fine again. (Well, about as fine as WinME ever runs!)

Hi,

I am an IT manager and a friend had the same problem on a Tiny PC running ME. The problem was with the mouse and the display adapter drivers. Booting in safe mode was Ok. I forced it to reinstall
standard Microsoft drivers which it didn't like and then re-installed the correct Wheel Mouse and Trident. After resetting the display attributes this has cured the problem.

I've been having the same problem. I, too, have a TinyPC pre-installed with Windows ME:

1. The first PGCPC/SPOOLER boot errors started occurring about a year ago. I used PowerQuest "SecondChance" to go back to an earlier version - that fixed it for a few months.

2. When it started occurring again, I installed SusE Linux 8 (in dual-boot mode). My intention was to use Linux as a backup while I salvaged Windows. Imagine my surprise that simply installing Linux actually fixed the problem! For a few months, anyway...

3. Recently, it started happening again. Every boot was a blue screen, with the "PGCPC" or "SPOOLER" error.

From a boot diskette, I used c:\windows\system\msconfig to remove vetsup.vxd - it didn't help.

Then, from "safe mode", I de-installed PowerQuest SecondChance. That did it! Windows ME is booting happily again!

It's definitely time to think about upgrading WinME to Win2k Professional or XP...

Yeh! I've just had the same problem! I've a Tiny Studio Pro 1Ghz with windows ME

I got a "Windows Protection Error" "System Halted" message normally reporting an error in PGCPC although sometime "spooler" or nor reported.

I've tracked mine down to Powerquest Second Chance and the SC.VxD driver. now why this should start playing up I don't know as has been installed from new. I've uninstalled it and seems to be working OK again. I do intend to try and re-install it and hope it'll be OK but if not well i'll manage without it!

Hope this helps!

I often wonder how a proff.PC whizz susses these out quickly or how someone with little knowledge get them sorted without paying through the nose! Glad I can normally find enough info. onthe web to get me on the right track!

Paul,

can you post any solutions you have back to this board. I have a friend using win98 on a Tiny PC and he had an kernel error in pgcpc and now the machine boots into the safe mode menu every time!

Thanks,

Ian

Hi

PGCPC(01)+0000AC55 0E:0028:C0076891

I had this problem a few years back and decided on a win2K upgrade to solve it. But recently when I decided to fall back to ME so my daughter could play more games on the system. Guess what I got my old problem back.

My problems seemed to start when I was configuring network adapters or the networking wizard.

I have eventually traced to the VNETSUP.VXD linked to my NET adapter. To solve the boot problems I would suggest booting up in SAFE mode and running MSCONFIG from the RUN option on START menu. From here do a selective STARTUP and uncheck the box next to VNETSUP.VXD in the VXD section. after deselectiong this and clicking OK you will be prompted for a REBOOT where you should say YES.

Your Tiny system should come OK this time as long as there's no other problems lurking. You can disable the selective restart prompt once you know all is now working fine.

I went one step further and deleted the link to the VNETSUP.VXD file in my registry... but I'm not going to say go ahead and do this as it can be VERY DANGEROUS if you dont have backups and knowledge of how to recover from a registry problem.

Hope this helps and drop me a line if this helps as it P**sed me off for quite some time :-)

I don't know a solution to the problem, but I have a Tiny PC also but with an 800 MHZ intel chip. I haven't made any modifications either, but I have recently reformatted the hard drive. I just got lucky to get online....still not working right.
