Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module FT Post a Reply
From: Lynn on 12/31/2002
I have an older Packard Bell computer running Windows 98 OS. I don't know exactly what caused this problem to occur, but two days ago, while using Internet Explorer (v 5.5 sp 2), a box opened up and informed me "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The box then gave me the option of trying to restart Internet Explorer and sending or not sending an error report. I sent the error report and closed Internet Explorer, but now each time I try and open the program, I get this same message box opening up.

After the initial closing of Internet Explorer, I found that when I tried to open Windows Explorer, Control Panel, My Computer, etc., an Explorer error message box opened up and advised that
"This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor."

Then, on clicking for details, I receive the following: EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module FTAPP.DLL at 015f:022a4681.
Registers:

When I close the error message box, another small box with the heading MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER opens up saying "An error has occured in Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer will close now. If you continue to experience problems, please restart your computer."

Needless to say, restarting the computer didn't take care of the problem. I also tried re-installing Internet Explorer 5.5 sp 2, but that didn't help either. Since I can't open Control Panel, I'm not able to go in and uninstall programs there.

Any info on how I might be able to correct this problem will be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

I had the same frustrating symptoms as many listed here, using Windows 98 SE. After wasting several hours, I downloaded Ad-Aware, and eliminated the problem with ftapp.dll.

As a bonus, Ad-Aware identified more than 200 other nasty files that I did not need and that were clogging up my system. They're gone now, too.

Thanks to all who posted the Ad-Aware recommendation.

Hi,

I have a Packard Bell also and I have the same Exact problem with my computer, same messages and everything. I tried re-installing windows 98 & Internet Explorer but this didnt help. And like you, I can't get into my control panel either, everything I try to open on my desktop gives me that same "Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module FTAPP.DLL..."

TO: es4340m10@yahoo.com

the file's size is 1.61MB so if you have ftp on your computer you can download the ad-aware file somewhere else and then ftp it to your home computer. It did work for me.

Thanks to all of the suggestions. I've been having this problem for a couple of months and by simply deleting the file in program files.....everything is back to normal. Thanks again :)

Ok, I'm having the same problem on my parents computer (I'm using my computer to type this), but contrary to everyone else, I'm not having success with the suggested solutions. First of all, I can't open anything BUT dos prompt. When I attempt to delete or rename the files (or the entire folder), it tells me that access is denied or that it's in use and cannot be deleted or renamed. Unfortunately, I cannot connect to the internet from that computer to download it, and since the CD ROM drive isn't set to auto run, even if I burned that ad aware program to a disc, it wouldn't run it OR open it if it did run it for all I know. I'm at a loss and ready to just start from scratch and reformat it all. FYI, i tried all this through safe mode (deleting and renaming it) and xp doesn't seem to have a start up option of dos only. Any ideas?

WOW! As soon as I found out this is an actual tracking and monitoring device that is strangely added to computer systems, I wanted it off as soon as possible! What I did was Clicked on Start, Find files, searched for ftapp.dll and deleted file when it was found. The problem is gone. YAY!!

I had the same FTAPP.dll error when ever any windows were opened (My Computer, My Documents, Control Panel, Internet Explorer..etc). I solved the problem by reading James' post. I went to http://www.lavasoftusa.com , downloaded the latest version of Ad-Aware, and ran the program. It found a lot of files. I deleted all the files, the ones that i couldn't delete, i deleted manually. It fixed the problem immediately. However, i scanned it several times, using 2 of 3 methods of scanning that were provided. I believe the two i used was the quick scan, and the scan files/folders. Anyways..
i suggest you try this out.

Thanks James, for posting good advice.

The easiest solution for those of you that are not very computer savy is as follows. Click on Start. Go and click on Shutdown. Click on Re-Start in MS-Dos Mode. Once in Dos go to C:\program Files\FTAPP. Delete the FTAPP.DLL and FTAP.MON files in the directory. Type Exit and re-start Windows. You should now be able to use Internet Explorer etc. Good Luck.

I've got a problem also, im not sure if it is the same as everyone else's.

Whenever I open my computer, my documents or anything else like that an error comes up saying "Internet explorer has caused an error, FTAPP.DLL...." wha can I do to rectify this? I am running Windows ME on a 1 ghz pentium 3 processor. HELP! Also when I am in some cha trroms an error says "KERNEL32.DLL" blah blah blah and shuts down internet explorer, what can I do about this?

And finally (sorry about all this) whenever I start up my computer an error NV4QTWK.Dll appears, what is it on about?

Regards,

Ryan

I'm glad I found this site. It was the only one that popped up on google...I'm gonna try some of the things you guys said and hopefully the problem will be fixed... just some advice though.... ALWAYS HAVE NON MICROSOFT version of IE - like netscape :) Cuz if I hadn't had netscape now I wouldn't be able to read this, i'd be powerless hehe. Even if u dont use the program as your normal browser, keep it handy...

I had the same problem, in a Compaq with Windows XP.

I try with the link

http://download.com.com/3120-20-0.html?qt=Ad-aware&tg=dl-2001

Download & and install the software, then run it:
Voila! all of a sudden there were again operating Internet Explorer, File Explorer, Control Panel.

In this case iMesh was the source of FLT.DLL problem, now with Ad-aware I feel more comfortable.

The first reply worked for me! It's the ad-aware program. If you don't want to do all the complicated stuff do this. Works fast and it's easy.

Still having this problem? download Ad-Aware software which will detect ALL your spy ware apps and remove them. This is free ware, just follow the link below and you will be all set once you run the program. It worked like a charm for me after countless hours of trying to figure this problem out. give it a shot.

I found out how to cure the FLT.DLL Error problem!!
For anyone that gets the error, goto:
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm#flt

Then follow the directions.
Or you can just go straight to this site:
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm

This program (http://www.definitivesolutions.com/files/bhodmon1.zip)will tell you what DLL files you have that cause your problems. When this program is run, it will give you a list, all you have to do is disable them.

I Hope this helps!

You are a victim of Spyware/Adware.

FlashTrack installs its software in a directory called 'ftapp' or 'flt'inside your Program Files directory. Before you can delete it, you must deregister it and restart the computer.

On Windows 95/98/Me, enter this command at the command line:

"%WinDir%\SYSTEM\regsvr32.exe" /u "C:\Program Files\ftapp\ftapp.dll"

For Windows NT/2000/XP, use:

regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\ftapp\ftapp.dll"

If you have the newer variant, use the path "C:\Program Files\flt\flt.dll" instead.

After rebooting and deleting the files you can also remove the FTApp or flt key from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software in the registry to clean up if you like.

Hope this helps.
