 PXE-E53 error - laptop won't boot Post a Reply
From: Jules on 11/25/2002
My Toshiba Tecra 9100 laptop gives the error

CLIENT MAC ADDR: 00 00 39 7C F0 ED GUID:
PXE-E53 No boot filename received

PXE-M0F Exiting Intel PXE ROM
Insert system disk in drive

Any idea what the problem is. It looks like it's trying to do a network boot - how do I prevent this and make it boot off the hdd? Any idea how to get to BIOS on a Tecra 9100?

Please e-mail thoughts to jules_seeley@hotmail.com
Thanks.

Changing the nickel sized silver battery on the motherboard worked for me. My computer know boots up properly.

FYI: I think Hank has his crabby pants on. But he is right about the email address. I do not intend to send this post via email. Sorry. Allowing everyone to see the problem and fixes will help everyone get to a solution quicker.

Your BIOS settings are set to boot to the network. You want to disable this unless you are attempting to boot to the network to load an Operating System.

You need to get into the BIOS and it is usually the 'standard' menu or something like it. I am not sure with the Tecra. Set your first boot device to the floppy, second to CD, and third to hard drive. You may either have boot to PCMCIA device or network as your current settings. I would remove it completely unless you intend to boot from one of these devices (there are USB, 1394, removable hard drives and CDROMs that can be attached to the PCMCIA card bus).

If this is already set like this or you do not see a problem with the settings, then there may be a problem with your hard drive.

Good luck.

No, I will not e-mail you a answer, why not let other people know the answer also?

You are not my boss, I don't work for you.

Spend some of your TV watching time using google to find your answer first, getting into BIOS is a very basic thing and should be on toshibas site.

Stop being so selfish. I hope you get a lot of SPAM because you are a fool for posting your e-mail on a web site. Maybe you deserve it.

Just to be a nice person and since this may not be on the factory site I will tell you that your BIOS battery is probably dead, and you would have gone to the toshiba site anyway to find out where it is and how to replace it.

Try thinking about others next time, you might end up with a few friends.
