Great!
The solution of renaming wfword2k.dot to wfword2k.do_ works!
Indeed, the cause was installing Winfax pro. Thx a lot.

I had this same problem after installing WINFAXPRO. I followed the advice given, however the WFWord2K.dot file appeared in 3 locations. I was able to change the name on 2 of those files, however the one in the Office Start Up folder won't let me change it. It keeps telling me that the source file is in use. Other than uninstalling WINFAXPRO, any suggestions?

Winword errors, rename the file "normal.dot" and ask bill gates why he can't seem to find the time to write two lines of code to fix this.

I had the same problem as Explorer37, running Windows 98SE with Winword 2K posting an error message in VBE6.DLL afte I installed Symantec's WinFax Pro, retail box version.

I'm normally NOT a big fan of Symantec. In my opinion and experience, I've found their products to be troublesome at best, and buggy at worst; however, after trying eight different fax programs, WinFax Pro downloadable trial version was the only one that actually did the things I needed to do, and I was pleasantly surprised. I actually paid retail for it after the trial period expired.

I don't understand why the trial version worked flawlessly, and the retail box version blew up; but to be fair, I just installed it the other day and I haven't checked to see if there's an update or patch at the Symantec site.

I renamed the template WFWord2K.dot to WFWord2k.do_ instead of deleting it, and that did the trick--Winword starts right up. I suggest anyone else using WinFax Pro or any other Symantec applications try a similar fix.

The error you are getting is associated with Visual Basic for Applications (more specifically, Microsoft Word). FYI - Visual Basic is available for plugins and for the user to write small amounts of code to get desired results with Office 2000 (Macros). Typically, a plugin, corrupt VBE6.DLL file, or bad template will cause this error. I would start my troubleshooting from the easiest to the hardest. For example, to fix a bad template, is much easier than reinstallling the VBE6.DLL. Microsoft's KBA article #Q316033 mentions that the Norton 2000 or 2001 plug in for office may be creating the problem. Take a look at the link below for instructions on how to fix this problem.

http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q316033

Post back if you still have problems.
