Winword has caused an error in ms09.dll Post a Reply
From: Roger on 10/29/2002
Getting very frustrated with this!
Word will not open at all. The message is 'Winword has caused an error in ms09.dll. Winword will now close'
I have tried the repair feature, even uninstalled and re-installed office, even re-installed Windows ME. Deleting normal.dot had no effect. Other office applications work fine. Running Win ME and Office 2000 premium.

Its mso9 and not ms09!!! Replace the dll and you be ok, or remove Office + Eraser, then reinstall. good luck!

Check it out... My problem is similar but it happens to occur when Im trying to save a file in WinWord. I would just like to know why I cant find the file when I do a search for it and how I can obtain the file and where I should put it when I do find it since I can't find any traces of it on my HD. Can anyone please help me with this problem?

Good troubleshooting! However, there are a few things left you can try.

You can get into word by using safe mode command switch. Simply go to 'run' on your start menu and type 'winword.exe /a'. This will get you into Word but only temporarily.

Keep in mind, you may not have properly removed the Normal.dot template. If you use Outlook, you will most likely have Winword.exe running in the backgroud. I find the best way is to Cont. Alt Del and find winword.exe on the list. If it is there, end task/stop application (whatever it is for your OS). Then delete the Normal.dot. Survey says that if you get into Word using the safe mode command switch with your problem, it is most likely a Normal.dot template corruption.

Another possiblity is your default printer. If it is networked, change the default printer to something attached to the computer. Otherwise, reinstall the printer driver.

If all else fails, you can completely remove Office (all office, not just word) from your computer, then go to the Program Files and delete the Office 2000 directory. This will most likely solve your problem. However, it will also reset all your settings.

There are other possibilities. Check out this website:

This should help you. Feel free to post back.
