Touchpad and/or Mouse both non-functional on Compa Post a Reply
From: Jim on 05/18/1999
I have a Compaq Presario 1610 laptop with Windows 95. It worked fine (well, as fine as a Compaq can work) ... until one day after waking it up from "sleep" (energy saving) mode, neither the mouse or touchpad would move the cursor at all. The cursor justs sits there in the middle of the screen, but does show when activity occurs, becoming the typical hourglass when the drive is working. But it still just sits parked in the middle of the screen. I've rebooted or started-up the computer anew numerous times to no avail. Other than the cursor not moving anywhere I can use the computer by using Alt-Esc, arrows, return, etc. Both the config.sys and autoexec.bat files look fine and haven't been modified for several months. I've changed then reloaded the mouse/touchpad drivers to see if that would kick anything ... no dice. Any suggestion(s) what to try next?

I am having the same problem with my compaq 1625 and would like to know where in the compaq site you found the updated drivers for the touchpad and mouse.

I would really like to have a little more detailed information as this crazy pointer id driving me crazy!.Thanks for your help, hopefully.

: : We had similar problems with our notebooks. We went into control panel, mouse and:
: : *Click on touch pad tab
: : *set taps to none
: : *set edge drag to none
: : *click apply
: : *click ok
: : *exit control panel

: : Don't know if this will help you or not, but it is worth a try.

: Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately it didn't work because, for some reason, there was no touch pad tab in the mouse's control panel settings. Hmmm... Something must have gotten really knocked for a loop. So I snooped around the Compaq site and found a driver update install program to resolve problems between the touchpad and an external mouse. It's working okay now. Just hope it will still be working okay tomorrow...
