hello, my computer went down about a week ago and when i restored it the display was very blury. i tried to fix the display settings but it will only give me 2 or 16 colors and at 640x480. i think i need a standard pci graphics adapter vga upgrade and i cant find one. I had same problem as most people. Only had 2 and 16 colours in my display. I have got MGI G2+DMILA/8DCPQ. I downloaded the matrox software from the Compaq website and I have finally got my colours and resolution back. Thanks to this site and the people on here.

Hi everyone,
I have the old cheastnut were your screen goes blank either after a couple of minutes or even when you are just looking at the bios.Spec:
Compaq G2+/mila/8D/cpq - Video Board is the a AGP VIdeo Card ??
Motherboard - VIA VT82C686B
Monitor - AOC Flat screen I cant get windows xp install because the screen keeps going blank before I get the installation completed any ideas before I have all my hair pulled out, (its still a little chilly here in Belfast - :>)

There is no display when the PC boot up. When we plug in another VGA card with the same brand the display is OK. We tried to get a new replacement card but could not find any. Could you assist us where we could obtain the similar VGA card. Do we have a option of installing different brand VGA card. http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/unified/home.cfm6.82.016 is the correct download (1st box, upper left) Use the Millennium (G/series) G200 for Win95/98/ME. When you add the driver with the wizard, use the Millennium G200 AGP (English in my case). I can now run it in hi-color mode and it looks great!

GUYS: HIS POSTING IS THE ANSWER TO YOUR PROBLEM! DON'T DISREGARD IT!! from 16 colours to 16,777,216... Thankyou! xx Reminder: it's www.cpuid.com, d'load PC wizard, it will tell you what you need, then get it from driverguide.com after going to sis.com without getting anywhere i went back to driverguide.com and used search and came up with 264 posts on this problem and downloads. the download with the most hits, this was from various people posting and being better at research, is: 6326_130_win98me.zip from dl4.driverguide.com
this worked and added 256 colors to the list on my color settings. if this has helped anyone please let me know at:breeze71@iowatelecom.net usually i'm the one asking for help. ha ha.

Read the docs, pc wizard just shows you your hardware information, you have to figure out whats wrong from there yourself.
does it show anything unusual for the graphics card? if you have another pc try it on that and see the difference.

Thanks Owen, I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall win98 everything but the graphics worked. I spent 3days looking for the right driver, then I found this sight. I went to www.cpuid and downloaded the pc wizard and had the problem fixed in about an hour. My computer is a packard bell.

I have always looked at the main big chip and written down who makes it and what the number is, then go to the web and maybe the companies site and download the driver there. Most are trident or hurcules compatible so trying those drivers sometimes works too.
Some places have new cards for $20 or less, maybe that's the way to go.
After this, always keep the driver floppy INSIDE your computer, I tape it to the side of the case with package tape and if needed I CUT it off (as to not damage the floppy) then tape it back, so what if some tape builds up on it and I want it to stay.

This is not the name of your graphics card, go to www.cpuid.com download the PC wizard(on the top left hand side) and it will then tell you the model and manufacturer of the graphics card, with this info go to www.driverforum.com and download the drivers - hey presto you can view a lot more than 16 colours.

PCI Graphic problems. I had a similar problem with a Dell once I re-installed windows 98. If you have an intel processor you might want to try an intel 810e chipset. you can find this or other chipsets on the intel sight. Good luck.

You did not give us an OS. I can't remember if Windows 98 offers a standard PCI graphics driver or not. However, here is the driver for Win9X:http://www.video-drivers.com/drivers/58/58530.htm This motherboard is the same as the PCCHIPS M748LMRT motherboard. Therefore, PCCHIP's website would have any drivers you need. Computerpilot

Can you go to control panel / system / hardware or devices and find the type of graphics chip they use on board? You can then search the net for a driver for that chip.
There is no difference between a on board graphics chip and one you have to plug in so the same driver should work.

to computerpilot or anyone else knowlodgeable out there. I have a compaq deskpro series ep/sb model intel pent 2 300/66 mhz I don't know where to download a driver for this model, the graphics adapter is built into the motherboard, i have 16 colours right now and I would like the normal 256color. I have contacted compaq which is the new Hp now and all the stupid techs there for all their knowlodge have not the slightest clue on how to help me or where to direct me to the apprioate site, if that's not enough they want me to pay for online assistance for them to direct me to another usless site with no drivers, can you or anyone out there help me with this driver problem I can't stand looking at a 16 colour screen anymore.

This is what I do with mystery cards where my user just pertends they never got the disk or lost it; I pull the card from the computer and get an FCC number. Then I go to the FCC website and look up the number. It usually gives a picture of the card and just about everything you want to know about its creation and vital statistics. From there, you can get an idea of who created the card and go to the manufacturer's website.If you want me to help you, I will need the type of operating system and the name of the manufacturer of the card, if available. Did the Card come with the computer? If it did, then Compaq will have the driver on their website. Well, most of the time, as Compaq does like to limit what operating system you can put on older computer. Personally, I think it is a complete scam. I have worked with Compaq computers (newer presario 1200 laptop) that are stickered to work with Windows 2000 Professional. Compaq has still not figured out the sound blaster conflicts with any PCMCIA card IRQ/IO and does not offer support to fix it. But they keep stickering their computers to work with the operating system! A little inginuity will get the operating system to work with the hardware...it just takes a little longer to find a driver that can be modified to work. ---step off soap box.... Sorry, I get carried away with Compaq computers! I have worked with a few good ones, but mostly bad! Please post back with the information and I would be happy to see if I can drum up a driver link for you. Computerpilot.
