My Kernal32 has a general protection error. Post a Reply
From: Matthew on 07/24/2002
Ok I have Soft Ice (I've no idea how to use it and I don't know anything about the Kernal) every time I boot up it pops up (after the windows logo) and says that there is a general protection error in my Kernal32. It started after my computter messed up from while I was playing on Deadlock - Planetary Conquest and then the CD-ROM drive started making loud loading noises and slowed my computter, it didn't shut down right either, it just stuck on the "Windows is shuting down your computer" screen it stayed there for a few hours, when I realized it was left on. I just installed norten fire wall and just got rid of 111 picses of SpyWare with something called Ad-Aware. My PC usually has some kind of virus on it, any help would be much apechated however.

: I am not sure why you need a debugger for device drivers. If you are unsure how to use the software, then you need to remove it from your system. This is a sofware that should not be used for individuals without programming experience.

: I am aware of the adware software and have used it myself. In no way should this create conflicts and it is a nice little tool to have!

: I assume that you have some type of High Speed Internet Connection (DSL or Cable). Did you install the SoftIce Software from the NuMega website? If you did not, then there is quite a concern about security on your computer. Getting the Norton Firewall was a good idea.

: If you are unable to uninstall the software from the add/remove applications in the control panel, then you may want to check out your system configuration tool to see if it is set to open on boot. You can access this by Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information, then choosing the Tools drop down menu selection. You can uncheck items that you do not want to startup. Also, another option is to remove the software from the hard drive. This will not get rid of your boot error, but might change it to something different.

: Post back if you are still having the problems after uninstall. You may have the software or something in the registry that I can help you flush.

SoftIce is NOT compatible with Win9x! It only runs on Win NT or 2000!
