MS IE 5.5 Crash Post a Reply
From: Damion on 11/30/2000
Win98, MS Internet Explorer 5.5 (IE 5.5), Athlon 600mhz,
Ethernet 10/100, Fujitsu Speedport DSL.

Problem:

Press a hyperlink or a photo that connects a page and the MS IE5.5 crashes. Screen freezes mouse icon disappears. Abort from application back to desktop and mouse pointer is still gone though it still highlights icons. Have to re-boot.

Corrections attempted:

Speed up pointer movement, slowdown hardware acceleration, reloaded ie5.5, loaded IE 5.0 still have probs,

cleaned out whole computer formatted C: reloaded windows ( Basically a brand new setup... still crashes. help!!!)

Try d/l IE 6.0. Seems to work alot better and no problems.... Also check your updates through Microsoft update program.

Good luck

IE 5.5 is poned to crash i suggest using IE 5.0 or 5.01, also using Win 98 and IE in general almost always crashed my comp , why i dont know.
Now i use a more stable OS W2K, it works fne and im using IE 5.0.
Be sure all the files and folders are cleaned out and also try and use a regcleaner so u dont have any fualty settings left in the registry.
