: Over the years I have installed and removed many programs in Windows95. I know I never got all of the files associated with all the deleted programs because I have very limited space on my computer. I just want to start over with a re-install back to the original condiotion of my computer. How do I crash my computer and re-install Windows? Please help with step-by-step instructions.

One way would be to go into your BIOS and set it to boot from the CD first, then boot from your Windows CD and or the manufacture's recovery CD and follow it's instructions, your operating system will be recovered to normal but you will probably have to re-install any special programs or games etc...

Another clue would be to look up how to use "fdisk" and "format" to low level format your hard drive and start from scratch (as a last ditch effort).

To restore your computer to its orriginal settings you need some things.

* a windows 95/98 disk
* a boot disk (instructions for making are at the bottom)

1. REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER
with the boot disk in your floppy drive restart your computer.

2. SAFE MODE MENUE
when you restart your computer tap the F8 key untill you see a menu.

3. COMMAND PROMPT
choose the option called command prompt.

4. FORMAT YOUR HARD DISK
when you see the command prompt (c:\) type "format c:" without the quotes and press enter. you will be warned that all information will be lost press "y" and enter
when prompted label the drive.

5. RESTART
press CTRL+ALT+DEL with the boot disk in the floppy drive.

6. WINDOWS INSTALL
when the command prompt comes up place your windows disk in the cd rom drive if a cd or the floppy labled one in the drive. switch to the appropriate drive. (floppy is usually A: cd is usually D:)
type setup and press enter.
Follow the on screen instructions.

************************Boot disk instructions***********************
get a clean floppy.
go to my computer.
right click on your floppy drive.
left click format.
on the format window press create startup disk.

I hope this helps everyone.
