My Fatal Exception + blue screen only occurs during shut down. The first time this happened in 1999, with my Gateway MSWin98SE PC, Gateway told me this was a Microsoft error, wasn't a serious problem if only occasional, and gave me instructions (not available) on what to do. It still happens from time to time, but doesn't seem to harm anything. It only results in a Scandisk search for errors because my computer was not properly shut down the next time I open up. You might check with Gateway for further information.

My Toshiba Satelite keeps getting the same fatal error, "Fatal exception OE in 0028:C004EB04 in VXD VCACHE(01)", regardless of what task I'm performing. A friend looked at the computer and told me it was a bad HDD so I upgraded to a 40G, with same problem. I removed my expandable memory (64mb) still no help.

This is driving me crazy and the fact that I have zero computer skills really isn't helping. Any advice you can give will be great.

Ok well I found out the reason for this error.
It was definately Bad Ram. When I say bad damaged.
The RAM was causing a catologue of Kernal 32 errors and OE Blue Screens.

I replaced my Video Card and my 256 of RAM and had no more problems.
I suggest you take it to a shop and try new RAM first test it.
Then still no fix replace the Graphics card and see if it is faulty RAM on that. If you keep getting the problem.
Throw your PC out the window and go for a walk.

same exact OE error. my system is a pentium III FC-PGA 133 MHz 4X AGP ATX Motherboard 128 MB Ram AOpen model AX34. win 98 SE. this has been an error that repeatedly occurrs at various different times for no known reason. programs commonly used are word 2000, norton anti-virus, work suite 2000, internet explorer 6.0. we also have an epson stylus color 880 printer that seems to contribute to win 98 freezing while printer is in use printing word documents. win 98 hangs on shut down if the printer has recently been turned off. we have to shut down win 98 1st and then the printer to avoid hanging. strange. any solutions to any of these problems would be much appreciated.

VXD Errors are device driver errors - VCache suggests video Cache memory access error - update your video driver or the device driver of any new hardware installed before the error began to occur! Hope that helps!

: I recieved this same error as well. I've done much research on it to no avail. I've learned it is a problem with hardware. I've also noticed the people who get it usually have pretty good computers. I have an AMD T-bird 1.4 Ghz, 1024 MB Ram, 64 MB Geforce 2 AGP video, and an ecs K7VZA M-board.

: If anyone knows what's incompatable, let me know. I've tried with 512 RAM but I still get many errors. Thanks.....

This is gonna sound Mental compared to probablly all the other solutions you may have heard ....I had the very same Problem and it turned out to be that one of my Ram cards was not Compatible with my Mother Baord .I had 2(256Mb pc13)Ram in my System.I Simply removed the Ram from slot 2(leaving Ram in slot 1 Only) and when i rebooted the computer it would not boot up right.I then replaced the Ram in slot 1 with the Ram that was in slot 2(Still only with 1 Ram Dimm inserted in the Mother board).I then got an error concerning the bios (BIOS CHECKSUM ERROR).I removed the Cmos Battery and then put it back in (While the computer was switched off. When i rebooted the system booted up as Normal.Since I did this i have not had any Problems at all

This is not for everyoneand is not a gauranteed solution - It is simply an account of what i have done (I WAS USING 2 DIFFERENT TYPES OF RAM) I hope this helps some one out there though :)

A-BIT KT7A RAID MOTHERBOARD
ATHLON TBIRD 1400 MHZ
64MB G-FORCE 2 MMX 100/200
512 MB RAM (REDUCED TO 256)
128 SOUNDBLASTER
WIN 98 SE

I had the same problem with my machine (400MHz, P2, Win98). What I eventually found is that I have a video problem (VCACHE is a clue). I lowered the hardware acceleration setting for my video display and the problems cleared up. I had also heard that you could disable caches, but I did not have to do that. Good luck.
