New motherboard not recognising my floppy as 3 1/2 Post a Reply
From: Alan on 07/13/2001
I have just put a new motherboard in. (not sure what model but it is apparently a vtech model no 35887602xx)I am running win98, amd500 cpu. The problem is that the bios at the start recognises a drive as 3 1/2 but windows is saying its 5 1/4 inch drive. I cannot get the drive to work at boot up and have swapped back to check and it works with my old board. help please

From what I understand, this mobo is more or less a clone of a board made by FIC (First International computer corp of Taiwan) and they have BIOS updates and other info at the FIC site, although I cant say for sure if there 100% compatibility.

I can say however that we did get more or less the exact same bug that is reported on the FIC site with the USB ports on 2 of these boards (the one you actually have, not the FIC it was cloned from), so it looks pretty convincing to me, as well as the board having exact same spec, pin and connector locations and so on

FIC's site is www.fic.com.tw and the name they give for the mobo at FIC is PAG-2130
This should help you find all the info they have about it.

If you're interested, the boards have lasted over a year at our office and are still going strong, so it looks reasonably reliable except for the few minor bugs
already mentioned
