WINWORD: module MSO9.DLL error Post a Reply
From: John on 08/09/2002
On several of my Word documents, when I try to Save, Print, or the following box will pop up and Word will be shut down:

WINWORD caused an invalid page fault in
module MSO9.DLL at 017f:309d9b68.

Upon restarting Word the document is "locked for editing".

The next time I tried to save such a document I get a similar message:

answer to mso9.dll problem, which I have on my system. First, the dll is not corrupt, reinstalling office with a fresh copy gives same error. Second, in Word, various functions cause the mso9 lockup. On mine, just accessing Format, Font does it. In Excel, going to the Font diaslog box gives no problems. Any Print functioni might lock it up, too. The only work-around I have is to make sure the network printer and PC that's sharing it and the Epson C86 are all on. If the shared PC is off, I get the error. The problem might be a communications issue with some printers. Like in a post above, someone suggests setting another brand printer as default, if yu\ou have another.
I hope everybody keeps at this issue that wemight narrow it down to the specific cause.

Hello. I have a trouble with this mso9.dll, well, when i am opening a new doc file in M. Word 2000, i am in windows 98; there is a message a minute after opening the file. It says this:

I was doing the repair option of the Microsoft Office installers; the trick of mso9.old and winword.old; then deleting normal.dot; then replacing mso9.dll with another mso9.dll; then uninstalling and reinstalling Ms.Office 2000; and nothing happens. See that the direction 0197:..... is different that the messages you posted. Please help me. Thanks.

I have had exactly all of the problems and messages that are described. I have been looking for a fix online. Have downloaded a new MSO9.DLL, but no difference. Yes it happens with a file with a graphic in the header. I have also set a 2nd PC on a network printer, recently connected?

I will delete the graphic header in the file, complete it them try to print the finished file?

I will come back to see any more suggestions. Yes, I have run "repair & reload".

I had exactly the same problem. It would only happen with certain documents - ones which contained graphics. It turned out to be the default printer (Epson C82 Inkjet) which had been recently installed on the network.

I changed the default printer to an existing installed printer (also network) and the problem disappeared. Changed it back to the Epson and it reappeared.

I re-installed the Epson C82 printer driver and the problem went for good.

Hope this helps

Do a search for other info here on MS09
Is there any chance you installed something new that caused this? Some installs of programs write a new DLL file in, some back up the old version maybe you can find it and try it (back up the new one just in case) or try one from the master CD

Hi,

I have performed all of your suggestions. However, the error message remains. I am desperate. The error occurs when I attempt to open Excel.

"Excel has caused an error in MSO09.DLL"

Hi,

It happend to couple of my users too. The document was created in Word 2000. Then, it was modified in Word 97 and sent back to user with Word 2000. The user with Word 2000 got the same problem. So, I sent this document to myself. I have Word XP(2002). I was able to save, modify and rename without any problem at all. I sent the modified and renamed document to the Word 2000 user and it worked just fine.
I don't know what the reason for this error, but the problem is fixed.

Good luck,

Tony.

First off, the error is occuring in Word but the dll file in question affects all of Office 2000. You should place the install disk into your CDROM and choose the option for a full Office repair. If this does not work, uninstall office and reinstall.

It is simply a corrupt MSO09.dll file most of the time. Occasionally, there could be a conflicting Office addin that is causing the error. However, start with the easiest, then work towards harder problems to fix.

Post back if this does not work. Only, this time, start a new thread so that I can respond quicker.

Thanks.

Hi there,
I just saw this post and I would apreciate it if you help me.
I also have a problem with mso9.dll in word, every time I start writing, a window pops up saying that word caused an error in mso0.dll. Before I saw this, I tried to repair office but nothing changed, I also downloaded another dll from internet with no effect.
When I saw this post I tried again to repair word directly from the help menu, but nothing changed.
What can I do next?
Thanks for the help.

You are getting the most popular MSO9.dll error message. How lucky are you?

There are quite a few things that can affect this file. It is the heart of Microsoft Office and can affect any of the office suite applications.

The reason for your second error message was associated with the computer not removing the previous document from memory before you attempted to open it again. Office 2000 will give an error message that is is locked and is read-only, even though you do not have another copy open. This is normal.

You should run a 'repair' on Office 2000. Open Word and choose 'help'. Then choose the option to 'repair office'. You can also insert the Office 2000 disk and It will give you an option to repair. Do not uninstall/reinstall until you have attempted this first.

Other possiblities exist. It is possible that you have recently installed a conflicting printer. However, you did not indicated that you have the error message when you print.

Also, it is possible that your Normal.dot template is corrupt and needs to be replaced (you can do this by deleting the file - Word automatically replaces it next time it is opened).

Individual files can cause this error message. If a macro is used in a Word document that is not properly coded, you can get this error message. Also, other small items in a document can create the same error message.

Make sure that you are not saving in an older format of Word. This can also create the error message.

Feel free to post back if you still get the error message after all of the troublshooting.
