Win 98SE crash when starting Excel 2000 Post a Reply
From: Yvon on 08/01/2001
All other office programs start ok except EXCEL, which causes system to hang. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del results in a message- "System is dangerously low in resources. Would you like to terminate the following application? xxxx [Not responding]" Nothing happens clicking "yes" or "no". I have to press the power button and reboot.
Sometimes I got the message:" Excel caused a general protection fault in module USER.EXE at 003:00003d32"
I saw in previous posts same problem happening with Word or Outlook but I don't see any relation.

Any one can help?

I can't help, but I have the same problem. Installing SP3 help for awhile, but the problem is back now.

Thanks to all who posted. I can't believe renaming this file did it. I have not had use of excel for at least 3 months because of this.

Renaming the excel.xlb to excel.old fixed the problem. Now everything opens fine.

Deleting excel.xlb fixed issue for me 2 - after a LOT od messing 'round. What a truely brilliant piece of programming - maybe piece of somehting else would be moer suitable.

...and here I was thinking it was the supplier of another program and NOT MS - silly old me!

Thank you!

Regards

John
