Scandisk never finishes scanning....... Post a Reply
From: ermel on 11/30/2001
Upon every boot-up Scandisk comes up, but even after 6 hours later, it never completes its job.
I tried it in safe mode also and same thing happens.
Unable to defrag. Get message that says I must perform through Scandisk.
This first occured after running Norton's defrag. After I noticed this I uninstalled Nortons and restored under WinMe, which is my OS. That ,however did not solve problem. Also disabled Power Management option to put hard drive in sleep mode. No luck.
Short of Formatting hard drive, how can I solve this problem??

Western Digital 30G HD ATA100 running WinMe.

Try disabling your screen saver first,as long as it is writing to the computer scan disk will not complete

I am by no means an expert, but I had a simular problem with my 233. Microsoft scan disk would start over and over again because Norton was always working in the backround, writing to the disk. I finally got rid of Norton utilities and scandisk works just fine.
Norton found more problems than I care to deal with. I still use their Anti-virus, it's excellent.
