From: Tami on 12/22/2001
I have windows 98. Every time I try to shut down I get a blue screen with this message on it.

A fatal exception 0E has occured at 0028:00000009. The current application will be terminated.

*Press any key to terminate the current application.
*Press Ctrl+ALT+ DEL again to restart your computer.
You will lose any unsaved unsaved information in all applications.

Press any key to continue.

The only way for me to shut the computer off is to push the power button. Please help if you can. Thank you.

You could try just puting the hardrive in another computer after seting the jumper to slave. This would be a much easier way than linking the computer, also if you cant save a word doccument it might be awfull hard to send files over a link. I imagine the link would be a usb or lan connection. Putting your hardrive into another computer is as easy as one two three four. One you take out the hardrive and change the jumper to slave(the settings are usualy displayed on a diagram on the hardrive). Two remove the other towers cover. Three insert the hardrive by connecting the cables(power and the 81 pin). Then start the computer with the long boot slected too see if the computer detects the new hardrive. Hope this helps

This problem is sometimes fixed by updating any CD-RW software on the computer, or removing bad CD-R or CD-RW discs from the PC. Hope this may help someone.

Formatting will always help. Since the fatal exception of type:
excetoption <parameter> has occured at <parameter Address>:<parameter Address>,....
can not be diagnosed properly. There can be many variations and depending on the paramater address it can be anywhere from your drivers to network and communication, or bad sector problems.

I have a PC that goes blue screen (with the same problem) twice during the startup of the computer. I hit the any key twice and things proceed as normal. It is just a nuisance at the moment, but I think it'll end up worse if not fixed. Anyone with ideas?

Thanks

Well Reeyer I can tell you, don't have to do all that. You can simply remove your current harddrive and replace it. Install an OS on your new harddrive. Then re-add your old harddrive to that pc. You have to make sure one is configured as the master and the other as the slave. This is done with small jumpers on the end of the harddrives. Once you've got your new harddrive as the master(probably c:\) you can then access all the data on your old harddrive(probably d:\). This sounds like an easier option to me.

simple there is no fix 2 this .... ive had this problem for weeks now contemplating whether or not to format the computer.

i cant even access my cd rom drive/ floppy drive or MY COMPUTER. so it is not much good. i cant even save a word document without that dreaded blue screen appearing!

i risk losing all my work. im holding off on this option because i dont like the thought of losing years and years of work.

then i was told about salvaging all from the harddrive, by linking up to another P.C (ie to store there until i format and start anew on my P.C) I was told i had to have a special cable to link the two computers together and then it was a case of drag and dropping my files onto the other computer.

DOES ANY ONE THINK THIS WILL WORK OR IS THERE ANOTHER WAY TO SALVAGE MY WORK BEFORE I FINALLY DECIDE TO FORMAT THE PC.??? MUCH APPRECIATED IF U COULD REPLY. IF IT MEANS PULLING OUT THE HARD DRIVE, THEN SO BE IT I CANT AFFORD TO LOSE MY WORK.

PLEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZE HEEELLLLPP !!!!!!!!!!!!!

MUCH APPRECIATED
