From: Kaffee on 10/15/2002
hello,

my problem has been solved in a former topic! but
i have still the problem with the missing hal.dll.
i started my windows recovery program and copied the new hal.dll, i`d downloaded before, in the directory c:\windows\system32 and replaced the old one.
then i`ve rebooted my system but the error message returned.

but i`ve to complete, that i had another system with windows xp and various programs, and of that system i made an image file. i restored this image file on my other computer, which doesn`t work now.

please can you give me an answer or better a solution!
thank you
kaffee

Hi Kaffee

I've run into the same problem as you did with windows XP Pro. I found this site to be very useful http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_haldll_missing.htm follow the directions at the bottom you will have to write the instructions down you cant right click on the page to save it.

Good luck hope it works for you

Did you want to run with the 'imaged' version or did you want to go with the missing hal problem?

I am not sure how you tried to replace the 'missing hal' problem. Also, I am unaware of your previous post so I may ask some dumb questions.

A hal file is not extracted from the install CD as 'hal.dll'. The file name depends on what type of system you have. See KBA #237556. This will help you when trying to restore a HAL.

Also, please consider that the Boot.ini could be damaged or MBR.

As far as the 'imaged file', you might want to clue me in on what you are using to accomplish this. Are you using Ghost? This I might have little experience with and can probably help you out. Please post back if this is the case.

Hope this gets you on the right track. Feel free to post back.
